Thursday Fun: Watcher Story Prompt

Okay, y’all. It’s time for our monthly story/ poem prompt! Regular readers will remember that last time, we used Maxfield Parrish’s image “Daybreak” as our prompt. This month we wracked our brains for at least an entire two minutes to come up with a new prompt, and we decided that since we did an image last time and a poem before that, this month we’re going to give you a dictionary definition.

So here’s the challenge. Using the definition as inspiration, write a story or poem (or heck, if you’re an artist, you can draw something), post it on your blog, and then comment here so that everyone can wander over and stare at it.

Are you ready for the definition? For suspense, it’s . . .

  1. Spirit!!!! Maggie, did you pick this word for me? It’s 12.30am here, I’m going to bed. Grrr, fighting the new kitten. Surprisingly kitten claws are sharper than hairy stomach man flesh. I could cheat and copy something from my lj, but I’ll write a fresh one.

  2. Flesh is meat
    Meet is a race
    race is a color
    Color is a shade
    Shade is a ghost
    Ghost is a spirit
    Flesh made spirit

  3. Oh, I love the tone of this! Very moody and ethereal–and it’s so much fun to see where you went with such an open prompt 🙂

  4. They’re open ended! Sometime before the next watcher prompt at the end of next month? *grin*

  5. I decided to go with “hurried typing” instead of “well thought out narrative.”

    As usual.

  6. This might take more thinking than I’d originally anticipated. My post will be slightly (hopefully) delayed.
